I can’t even remember how long ago I bought this Groupon, but I took it all the way down to the last day to cash in on it. Good things come to those who wait, right?
Soi 9 is Southern Thai Street food. I will be honest, I don’t know the difference, but after reviews I thought it was best to figure out the difference.
We walk in and the place is not super busy. Many, many open tables. She grabs the menus and takes us ALL the way back to the very back, away from everybody. I double checked my clothes, my hair and any thing that may have been stuck between my teeth, but it seemed all clear to me.
We grab the menus, which are large and very detailed. I really just like to know what they suggest. Unfortunately on this day they only had one gal waiting tables and although it wasn’t super busy, she had them all and had to add our table all the way in the back. When I asked her what she suggested she gave a few quick ideas.
We ended up ordering the Soi’s 9 Noodles, since it was their original recipe. This dish reminds me a bit of pad thai, except that it wasn’t quite that sweet. It came with crispy shrimp, chicken and calamari. I would highly encourage you to try this dish. Super yum!
We also shared the Panang Curry with Beef. She suggested this one because it was a Willamette Week’s favorite. This is served on a bed of green beans. I couldn’t get enough of the green beans. Such a great sauce. Very thai, no other way to really describe it, I just really liked that it had so many green beans.
Overall our experience was great. If you like Thai food and you are in the area then you must stop. It’s close to Jeld-wen field, so go early before a game and grab some grub.
- The atmosphere is light, bright and very open. It’s also great for large parties with big booths in the back.
- Pricing was pretty typical for sharing meals. $10-$14 a plate.
- Service was ok, but only because she was alone and working her tail off.
- I didn’t check out the drink menu since were there for lunch. Yes I do have boundaries, sometimes.
